What return do you want on your money?
I just cannot imagine why gamblers do not consider the returns they will get for their money. It seems that most players out there are deliberately playing the games with the worst possible returns. The lottery is the perfect example. There are millions of people that play the lottery every week. All their life, every week, they buy lottery tickets and expect to win that fabulous jackpot. How many people do you know that have won the lottery? I’m guessing none. There are so many people playing it and the odds are so low that winning the lottery is somewhat of a miracle. You are better of taking that money that you use to buy lottery tickets and use it to buy something else. Or at least put it away and see how much you end up saving after a while.
Other complete rip-offs are video poker and video keno machines. I have spent countless hours watching all types of players waste away their money. As I see it, the game goes like this. The first thing you need to do is feed the machine with paper currency. Then you play for a while until your credit runs up and you have to feed it some more bills. The machine starts flashing and making noises again until you again run out of credit. You see where I’m going with this. You lose a lot of money just to see a machine flash some lights and make a lot of noise.
When I asked these players why they keep playing they said it was fun. What could be fun about losing money? But wait, it gets worst. Some gamblers literally bet all the money they have. They keep feeding these strange machines money until they are broke. And for what? An $800 jackpot? Why people would spend all their money for such a low jackpot is beyond me.
A close fried of mine actually enjoys playing these machines. I watch him play and when I come up to him I usually ask him “How are you doing?” It newer ceases to amaze me that he always answers “I am about even”. In my opinion that is the gambling line of the century. I guess that being even is a good thing. But he forgets I have been watching him and I now the truth. And the truth is that he is far from even. If these machines were offering an even game then they wouldn’t be profitable. The truth of the matter is that these machines simply take your money. Without realizing, it my friend is playing a game that offers the worst possible return on is money.
Here is the bottom line. This phenomenon takes place all over the world. Whenever you willingly give money to a land based casino, online casino, or any other form of gambling you are getting the worst possible return on your money. It is a simple fact and I am amazed people do not realize it.
Here is a final quandary for you. Let’s say that land based casinos were not allowed to serve alcoholic beverages. What do you think will happen to their profits?
