Online casinos don’t have much of a history in Canada; in fact, with one exception, they have not been able to legally operate off of Canadian soil since no licensing is issued in any province. The only exception to that rule has been a few casino licensed issued for Khanawake, Quebec which is a native reserve. This means that Canadian players have never had the opportunity to actually play at an online casino that is licensed in their own country. Not that it makes a big difference to the overall gaming experience; but it does mean they just aren’t given the opportunity to contribute to the economy by playing their favorite
roulette casino games.
Well, that is all about to change, but it doesn’t mean that people aren’t still debating the subject about incorporating legalization of Canadian online casinos. There are people on both sides of the argument; some which are for online gambling and Canada and some which are against. Some people believe that the government is deciding to discuss the option of online casinos becoming legal because they would like to make some money off of the industry. While some see there’s nothing wrong with that, because they think it’s better for Canadians to spend the money in the country, others still think it’s not right. Another reason that people are opposed to this idea is because they believe it will only encourage gambling problems. There are people that can become addicted to gambling, and by having it more readily available in the country legally, critics think that perhaps problems will only become greater.
Of course, there are those who are very much in support of online casino gambling in Canada and they are the ones who know that players will bet online no matter what, so bringing it to Canada will be to the benefit of the economy. The government would of course make money and also create new jobs. It could also help to protect players in Canada from having to play at online casinos that aren’t properly moderated under strict standards and guidelines.
The good news is, Canadian players aren’t going to have to wait much longer. Just recently, Quebec announced it would release online poker as part of the provincial lottery system. Players will have the option to play in their own country and other provinces may soon follow suit!
