New Jersey, Not Nevada, may be the first State to Regulate Gambling

US players who are into online roulette and other online casino games have had limited options when it comes to playing online. With the UIGEA enforcement date drawing nearer, players are finding themselves unable to find a casino that will take them that’s based internationally; that is, if they’re from the US. While the desire to bring online gambling to the US has long been discussed, it doesn’t look like it will happen just yet. However, there is some information available about which US state might be the first to start the online casino industry and licensing it.

It’s often been speculated that Nevada would be the first state to introduce online casino, after all, Las Vegas is the first place that Americans think of when they hear the word casino. Of course, it’s not the only place casinos exist, but Vegas is hot so it just makes the most sense that licensing of online casinos would be on their priority list. But, surprisingly enough, there is a state trying to make strides towards being the first; but it isn’t Nevada.

Las Vegas isn’t the only city to have a major focus on online gambling. Atlantic City is another hotspot that caters to those who want the excitement of casinos online. It might not quite have the same appeal as Las Vegas, but it is a popular place to go and of course the state has the experience in casino management that could translate online. During a recent industry event it was suggested that New Jersey might make online casinos available by 2011. A bill has already been presented to potentially make that happen. The licensing process has already been outlined and will require that casinos pay $200,000 for the first year. After that, renewing licensing will be $100,000 every year. Since there are still naysayers out there concerned about how the introduction of online casinos will bring in more gambling problems, an additional $100,000 must be paid every year towards anti-gambling programs. Of course, casinos online will also have to pay tax.

The online casino industry for New Jersey can make a big difference. Not only will it allow online casino players in the US to find casinos that are based in their home country to play at without limitations; they also will be helping the economy. Last year, Atlantic City had one of its worst years for revenue, and this could create jobs.
