The UK gambling commission continues discussions regarding the ban on advertising online gambling sites, a law that is part of the regulatory efforts that came into force on September 1, and in later installments later throughout the year.
The UK gambling control commission decided to change the current law that regulates gambling and is a half century old with an organized policy to set the actively competitive and rather unsupervised online gambling industry. As assumed, the latest developments, which by the way are a smart move got also criticism and caught quite a lot of people - site operators and users - by surprise.
It is obvious that the current online gambling regulation needs to adapt to the 21st century but the UK gambling control commission seemed to go slightly off the track. In the new law, the gambling definition includes mass multiplayer online games that offer prizes, playing a game of chance for a prize. For example, mass multiplayer online games, such mass multiplayer online roleplaying games as EverQuest and World of Warcraft, which are both play-to-pay games available without any existing restrictions to the law, are now introduced in the gambling definition of the new law. Perhaps they are missing the difference between gaming and gambling.
Anyhow, according to the new UK gambling control commission's law, providing facilities for gambling such mass multiplayer online games without proper operating license is a criminal offense. Such game providers will need to obtain operators' licenses from the UK gambling commission. Now, we agree that this is not a difficult task and we should take the bright sides of the new law, as it will also ensure fair and open gambling, protect children and fight crime.
